16. 05. 2024The third symposium, East/West: Borders Through Film and History, which explores life along the Slovenian-Italian border through moving images, delivered an exceptional film experience on May 7 at 8:30 p.m. in the House of Film in Gorica. A freshly restored copy of the film Red Boogie by director Karp Godina from 1982 was shown, with the director himself joining us for the occasion.

16. 05. 2024Between May 6 and 8, 2024, the 3rd symposium East/West: Borders Through Film and History took place at the House of Film in Gorica. In this edition, a diverse array of lecturers and authors focused on the significance of local film cultures and cross-border film practices, as well as the role of cross-border television co-created by Radiotelevizija Slovenija and Rai Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The ultimate goal of the project is to challenge the established vision of two separate Europes, "East" and "West", from a new perspective.

18. 12. 2023David Abelevich Kufman, known under the pseudonym Dziga Vertov (1896-1954), was a Soviet director, screenwriter and theoretician of documentary film, as well as one of the pioneers of documentary film language. Inspired by the ideas of the revolution, he entered the world of Soviet documentary film in 1918 and gradually became known as a lively innovator and experimenter of film language.

05. 12. 2023The list of sources that can be used in writing film history is a demanding task, but definitely necessary. Newsreels, which are an extraordinary audiovisual document of the time in which they were created, can be of great help when discussing and writing history.

18. 08. 2023As a part of this year's symposium East / West, Border in Film and History, in cooperation with the èStoria festival, gorizian professor and researcher Anna Di Gianantonio discussed the ever-relevant question of women's role in society during her presentation. With the help of audiovisual material, we show how the status of women began to change for the better in the post-war period in Italy. This moment is perfectly presented by the unique short documentary newsreel “A Woman in Italy”, which was created in 1958 as part of the documentary program “La Settimana Incom”.

20. 07. 2023As part of the multi-year project East / West Border through film and history, a film screening took place on July 18, 2023, at which we showed three films, each in their own way talking about the events and life at the border.
Where is the iron curtain?
13. 07. 2023The short documentary film by director and screenwriter Mako Sajko focuses on what happened on and along the Yugoslav-Italian border in the 1960s. It describes life and friendly neighborly relations in a border area where the exchange of goods between the two countries takes place almost unhindered in a humorous and light-hearted manner. The documentary dispels myths about the impenetrable and strict border between the then Eastern and Western blocs, which over the years has been called the "Iron Curtain".
