It was essential to meet and converse – Piero Pieri

The Importance of Cooperation Between Television Stations on Both Sides of the Border
Television typically addresses its audience on a national level. That’s why Lynx Magazine is such an exceptional rarity. As far as I know, similar initiatives exist in Europe, but ours was developed based on our unique model, which was, among other things, shaped by the efforts of individuals. It was a connection between authors, editors, and citizens from two countries that are geographically close but have communicated relatively little until now. Those of us who worked on this project really invested ourselves personally. There was a genuine mutual interest, as well as a shared personal history. There’s something familial about this program. Perhaps that’s why it was so successful.

Why are such cross-border initiatives important even today?
I believe that in the beginning, this initiative was crucial. It was essential to meet and talk. Over time, it became routine, which is normal since television also has an industrial aspect and a need for continuity. It’s important to stay committed to the work. We have to be convinced that we are going on air with a rich repertoire of information. Even after twenty years, I believe that the sincerity in showing care and attention to others is still very much alive. Of course, things have changed a bit for many reasons, one of them being the transformation of the world and both countries over time. New people have joined the team, and I see great enthusiasm for cooperation. What’s needed? In the past, meetings were absolutely crucial. Today, it’s necessary to engage more deeply. We can’t rely on old habits; we need to seek new motivations. The spark of interest must always be present.

Can the European Capital of Culture further encourage such cooperation?
I’m not sure, as I’m not yet familiar with the GO!2025 program. However, it presents a fantastic opportunity for this area and the people involved. It’s especially important for those working in communication. I believe it’s an event that absolutely requires communication. Additionally, I think this story should not be confined to the border region’s population but should transcend and expand outward. At this point, those of us who live along the border should present ourselves to those who know us less well. Over the years, I’ve noticed that Lynx Magazine has consistently sparked interest among the residents of Friuli Venezia Giulia—both those living near the border and those farther away. For example, they’ve shown interest in how Slovenians live.

Filmska umetnost kot orodje preseganja meja

09. 04. 2025

Nekatere meje so vidne, druge nevidne.

Transcending Borders Through Film – Andrej Šprah

Film clubs play a crucial role in shaping film practices, cultures, and policies, as they serve as spaces for intense discussions where new ideas emerge. These clubs often evolve into institutions, although institutionalization is not always necessary.
